In 2009, Dr. Sam Meisler conceived PetWell Clinic with the goal of making routine veterinary care affordable and accessible for every pet owner. The first clinic opened in West Knoxville in 2010, establishing an effective walk-in model and pioneering a groundbreaking approach to modern pet care. In 2015, PetWell Clinic launched its proprietary practice management software, purpose-built for the walk-in model and setting the operational standard for every clinic that followed.
Before PetWell Clinic, pet owners had three choices, none of them built around what owners and their pets actually needed: the full-service hospital, built for complex cases and priced accordingly; the big-box clinic event, limited and temporary; or the opt-out, skipping care entirely because neither option was realistic. PetWell Clinic filled that gap with a permanent, walk-in clinic model where routine care is accessible, affordable, and built around the pet owner's schedule.
The franchise opportunity opened in 2019, after a decade of operating and refining the model in company clinics. By 2022, the system had grown to 18 franchise locations. Today, PetWell Clinic operates 24 locations across 12 states, with new clinics in development and white space remaining in communities across the country. Franchise owners are not testing a concept. They are buying into a category the brand invented and has spent 15 years proving.

Each PetWell Clinic operates in a compact 800 to 1,200 square foot footprint that keeps build-out costs manageable while delivering a full walk-in clinic experience. The team is intentionally lean, and no surgery and no boarding means no surgical suite to build, staff, or insure.
The PetWell Clinic model is built around recurring need. Pet owners return for wellness visits, preventive care, chronic condition management, and everyday ailments, creating a revenue base that grows as the clinic builds its community presence. Five revenue categories across services, products, and diagnostics mean each visit can generate income across more than one line.
A dedicated veterinarian recruiter is employed by the franchisor, backed by a full recruiting toolkit, connections to recruiting firms, and a Franchisee Advisory Committee focused on hiring. On the demand side, owners get a structured six-month outreach plan covering 50 pet-adjacent businesses, three direct mail campaigns to at least 2,500 households, and a minimum of six community events.
